What are crack stitching bars?

Crack stitching bars are specially designed metal bars, typically made from stainless steel, that are installed across cracks in masonry to reinforce the structure. These bars are embedded in the wall, bridging the crack and redistributing the structural loads along the length of the bar, thereby stabilising the wall and preventing further cracking.

How do they work?

The process begins with identifying and assessing the extent of the cracks in the masonry. Slots are then cut into the mortar joints of the masonry, perpendicular to the crack and at regular intervals, and the crack stitching bars are then laid into the slots. Once the bars are in place, a special grout or resin is used to fill the slots, bonding the bars to the surrounding masonry. After the grout has set and cured, the repaired area is typically finished to match the surrounding masonry, making the repair as discreet as possible.
